I just finished listening to his recordings of all three nights of this run. Considering the sonic cesspool that is this venue, now called the Credit Union
...
1 Amphitheater, these might be the most impressive Brent era audience recordings I have heard.
The venue has sky boxes suspended from the roof over the seating area, causing the sound to be deflected and absorbed as it moves through the 200 section of the seats and into the lawn. Seats or lawn if you are more than 5 or 10 degrees off center stage the range is skewed high or low depending on the mix and the volume is too low. Worst sounding venue in the Chicago area. But everyone is audible on these recordings and the range seems reasonably full with a decent set of speakers.
As for the shows, I would rate night 2 (7-22) 4 to 5 stars and this night (7-23) 3 to 4 stars. I did not attend night 1 (7-21) but based on the recording I would rate it a sold 4 and the 2nd best show of the run. Everyone was on fire night 2 plus Loser, Far From Me (along with Blow Away, my favorite Brent song), a jammy Tennessee and a great Estimated > Eyes. This night they played well and I loved hearing the new songs (Foolish Heart is great) but from Terrapin on they kind of ran out of gas.
After 40 or so shows from 81 on, Brent's passing turned out to be kind of an end of an era. The toy piano sound he sometimes used could get on my nerves but Brent really brought it vocally and on the B3. After the glorious 91 show next summer the Soldier Field runs from 92-95 were average at best. Vince, especially, and to a lesser extent Bruce never seemed to have the connection to Jerry that Brent did. And Brent was a better songwriter than Vince. RIP Brent.

nice capture of the last we would hear of Brent Mydland. Another way too young tragic death of one of my favorite keyboard players. RIP
